INEC Chairman Calls for Arrest and Prosecution of Vote Buyers.

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Ojo Amupitan, has called on security agencies to arrest and prosecute individuals involved in vote buying during elections.
Speaking on the issue of electoral integrity, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) stressed that vote buying remains a major threat to free, fair, and credible elections in Nigeria.
According to him, anyone caught attempting to influence voters through financial inducement or material gifts should face the full weight of the law.
The INEC chairman emphasized that tackling electoral malpractice is necessary to strengthen democracy, improve public trust in the electoral system, and ensure that election outcomes truly reflect the will of the people.
Vote buying has remained a recurring challenge in Nigerian elections, often drawing criticism from civil society groups, election observers, and political stakeholders.
Many Nigerians have also continued to call for stricter enforcement of electoral laws and stronger collaboration between INEC, law enforcement agencies, and the judiciary to deter offenders.
The latest statement has reignited discussions around electoral reforms and the need to safeguard Nigeria’s democratic process ahead of future elections.
