I Want to Be a One-Term President” — Peter Obi Speaks on Leadership and Stability

Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has stated that he would prefer to serve only one term as president if given the opportunity to lead Nigeria.
Speaking on the issue of governance and national stability, Obi said his goal would be to focus on stabilizing the country within a single tenure rather than remaining in office for an extended period.
According to him:
“I want to be a one-term president because of stability. I would not stay a day longer, even with a gun on my head.”
The statement has sparked widespread reactions across Nigeria’s political space, with supporters praising the remark as a sign of selflessness and commitment to democratic principles, while critics question whether a single term would be enough to implement major reforms.
The issue of tenure and power transition has remained a sensitive topic in Nigerian politics, often generating debate around accountability, continuity, and leadership priorities.
Obi’s comments come amid increasing political discussions ahead of future elections, as Nigerians continue to evaluate different leadership visions and policy directions.
The former Anambra governor remains one of the country’s most talked-about opposition figures, with strong support among many young voters and members of the “Obidient” movement.
